Tom Vek – We Have Sound (CD Review)

Tom Vek is electro-rock with the slant towards the rock. He has written an album that is bass driven and generously laced with funk, house, and electro topped off with vocals that are dry, defiant and despondent. The effect is to make a highly original dance album and an experimental rock album at the same time.

The album contains the previous singles ‘If You Want’ and ‘I Ain’t Saying My Goodbyes’ but the album has so much more to offer. The hip-hop beat of ‘Cover’ that carries along an almost pastoral electronica and twisted bass is amazing. The warped bass and ethereal effects in ‘On The Road’ are mesmerising, ghostly and hollow. Tom sounds like an electrified Talking Heads in ‘Nothing But The Green Lights’ and like a chopped up version of The Go! Team in ‘C-C’. The initially traditional sound of ‘That Can Be Arranged’ is suddenly overtaken by electro pops and stretched low rumbles to somehow provide a bluesy sound.

Tom Vek clearly doesn’t think like you or I, he seems to have no fear in deciding what can be combined and more power to him for that.

Tom is touring the UK getting the party started for Moby and headlining his own gigs.
