ThisGIRL – Uno

Fans of ThisGIRL’s first album, Short Strut To The Brassy Front, will no doubt be pleased to hear that the band have done the best thing they could have done to follow it up: they’ve not lost their distinctive song writing style but they have made everything beefier and generally better.

The new beefiness comes in no small part from Uno’s co-producer Chris Tsangarides, who has worked with the likes of Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Yngwie Malmsteen and Gary Moore. Don’t be fooled into thinking a big name producer has simply tidied This Girl up and made them more presentable, it is clear throughout that since their last album the band have spent a lot of time and effort perfecting their respective instruments. The result is a collection of finely polished rock songs marked with a wry sense of humour and a left of centre view on the world.

Uno takes the foundations laid by Short Strut… and builds something big on top of it. Maybe a monolith.
