The Locust Tour With The Yeah Yeah Yeahs in the UK

Sound terrorists THE LOCUST (Bobby Bray guitars; Joseph Karam keyboards;
Justin Pearson bass/ vocals; Gabriel Serbian drums) have confirmed plans
to return to the UK for 4 headline shows in April. The band will then
continue on the road with art-punk trio The Yeah Yeah Yeah’s.

Uncompromising, confrontational, paranoid, nihilistic, aggressive
innovative, controversial, and frighteningly loud – San Diego’s the Locust
has been called the future of hardcore punk by more than a few people. The
band released their critically acclaimed debut for Anti records, “Plague
Soundscapes” last year, A record which crams 23 songs into just around the
same amount of minutes “Plague Soundscapes” piles unpredictable,
split-second changes, blasts of 2-second-long space-riffs, and lupine
screams onto spazzed-out keyboards that sound totally inhuman and strangely

“Plague Soundscapes” is nervy and sinuous and, above all else,
uncomfortably apocalyptic – The Locust has been throwing up in the face of
conventional music since 1995, but inaccessible as it may seem, guitarist
Bray thinks that The Locust’s music is the perfect solution for futuristic
living. “I think that there’s definitely plenty of room in the mainstream
for music to evolve as society evolves,” says the guitarist. ‘sound is kind
of a musical metaphor for human thought, and in our present-day post-modern
contemporary capitalistic societies, our music is a reflection of how brains
need to function in order to survive – rapid tempo changes, super fast-paced
problem solving, and weirdness to hold it together.”

But, of course, that’s just the future, a place where the band – at least
artistically – will always be.
