The Kills – No Wow (CD Review)

The Kills make a welcome return with the titular track from their amazing album ‘No Wow’. The pared back sound has really been sliced back to the bone, there is not an ounce of fat here; not a wasted throbbing guitar note or drum machine thwack around VV and Hotel’s insistent and hypnotic cries. If that wasn’t enough there are a fine supporting cast of remixes starting with the MSTRKRFT Remix that gives the original an electro beat and takes Alison’s voice higher disco like plane that gives the song a different energy and a cleaner sound.

If that wasn’t good enough, Tiga remixes a previous Kills single ‘The Good Ones’ into a pulsing dirty techno that heightens the existing electronic spine and allows the vocals to envelop the track. The effect is to electrify an already highly charged song brilliantly.
