Super Furry Animals – Songbook – The Singles Volume One (CD Review)

Volume one of the Super Furry singles-fest contains all of the singles from the first six studio albums (including their debut ‘Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllantysiliogogogochynygofod (in Space)’ from which ‘Blerwytirhwng?’ is taken). As if that was not enough this collection also contains the album dodging ‘Ice Hockey Hair’ and the latest single ‘The Man Don’t Give A Fuck’.

The collection has a controlled psychedelia, a surprisingly fresh likeness to The Beatles combined with a couple of numbers that are superb modern folk and some good old space age wig-outs. This is a fine compilation from a band that has not only survived their nine year music career intact, but is thriving with it.
