M83 – America

Compellingly intense, comprising half heard voices, arching synths and whirling beats; M83’s ‘America’ is an emotive collage of sound. The French duo have a knack for bleeding sounds into, over and around each other to create soundscapes with a cinematic richness. ‘America’ is backed by the more serene ‘Tsubasa’ (the Japanese for ‘wings’) and the forceful ‘Gods Of Thunder’ blends a Daft Punk disco vibe with stretched and calming interludes.

Lastly is the epic ‘Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Souls’ – strangely not taken from their debut album of the same name – that takes the listener on a chilled out trip through a desolate ambient landscape. If you love the experimental sounds of bands like My Bloody Valentine and French downtempo then this EP cannot fail to move you.
