I’m A Cuckoo – Belle & Sebastian

‘I’m A Cuckoo’ is the latest single to be taken from the excellent ‘Dear Catastrophe Waitress’ album. It is as bright and summery as it is legal to be in a built up area. There is no possibility that you could maintain a frown during it. Even better than that, it manages all this without being cheesy and annoying (as most bright and happy songs tend to be). It has the familiar touches of the west coast sound mixed in with the traditional Belle & Sebastian sound and is simply a delight to hear. ‘I’m A Cuckoo’ is also a bonus to fans of the Avalanches as it contains their remix (the first new work from the Avalanches in over two years). If the thought of what an Avalanched Belle & Sebastian track makes your head hurt then rest assured that the reality will do exactly the opposite. The Avalanches mix adds a myriad of pipes, flutes and voices to the song that manage to make it, if possible, even happier! It is truly a collision of genius.
