Elizabeth Harper – Elizabeth Harper (CD Review)

New Yorker Elizabeth Harper comes with a great weight of praise behind her from the press on both sides of the Altalntic and her debut album proves that they were all absolutely right.

Released by Angular, a label better known for its compilations of hip New Cross bands, this is a real gem. From the soothing tones of opener Trouble In The Palace, to the PJ Harvey-esque Parlour Window and Smiths-style Clean Cut, every song is perfect. Harper’s coice is soft and sweet with just the right amount of bite and sits comfortably on top of the many contrasting tones displayed on this album.

I happily add my name to the long list of people singing this woman’s praises; she deserves every word.
