Drill Queen – Born Depressed / Pocket Full Of Fun (CD Review)

Drill Queen are an Anglo-American outfit whose numbers include a Haitian ex-model and fetish ware designer, an ex professional poker player as well as guitarists from New York and London. The mix has created a sound like Skunk Anansie but with more anger and far more groove.

This double A-side starts with the excellent ‘Born Depressed’ that has singer Vee defiantly strutting above drum machines, space age sounds and arching guitars. The other A-side is ‘Pocket Full Of Fun’ that introduces an element of funk and spoken rapping that makes an unusual but engaging surprise.
