Desert Hearts – Ocean / Robyn G Shiels – Two Nights In June

Belfast’s finest new label No Dancing release their latest limited edition 7″ on 24th May. This time it’s a split between Desert Hearts and Robyn G Shiels and comes in very tasteful see-through violet.

Desert Hearts’ debut album for Tugboat records, Let’s Get Worse, was very well received and this single sees them on top form once again. Similar in some respects to Seafood, Ocean is spiky, punky and fast with brilliantly lazy vocals from Roisin.

Following support slots with the likes of Palace Brothers, Cat Power, Evan Dando and Van Morrison, Robyn G Shiels’ debut single is more relaxed than its counterpart on the opposite side of this disc. Stripped down to just vocals and an acoustic guitar Robyn sings of death, over indulgence and the weaknesses of man. Nice.
