The ambient trance of Delia and Gavin blends many influences. There are echoes of seventies sci-fi theme music, Jean Michel Jarre, Mike Oldfield and Vangelis in ‘El Monte’. The song is underpinned by the sound of a rainstorm and the driving beat reflects this. The flip side of the single is more akin to Propaganda mixed with a driving electronic TV theme from the eighties. Both are better than the sum of the parts listed above, but the comparisons are easily made. There is a richness that is applied to everything here, the musical equivalent of purple prose; it raises these tracks above many of their peers.
