Bebel Gilberto – Aganjú

Fresh from receiving the award for best world music act at this year’s Mobo’s, Bebel Gilberto releases the 2nd single from her acclaimed album, Bebel Gilberto.

Both Gilberto’s parents, Miúcha (who sings backing vocals on Aganjú) and Chico Buarque are well-known singers in Brazil. To escape their shadow, Bebel moved to New York in 1991, where she worked with the likes of David Byrne, Thievery Corporation and Deee-lite’s Towa Tei to mix up bossa nova and dance music and create her debut album, Tanto Tempo.

Aganjú takes a more relaxed view of things that those early tracks (though 3 12”’s of remixes have been released as well as the CD version). The style is impossibly cool and sounds nothing short of brilliant.
