The must-see live act of 2007, Rodrigo Y Gabriela return from slaying America to play their largest UK tour to date. Starting on May 23rd with three consecutive nights at Londons Shepherds Bush Empire, Rodrigo y Gabriela will play in Bristol, Liverpool, Norwich, Nottingham and Newcastle before their final date in Glasgow on June 4th
Ireland and Britain long ago embraced the phenomenon that is Rodrigo y Gabriela and now in the US they are on the road to becoming a household name. A hat-trick of high profile TV performances (Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Late Show with David Letterman and The Tonight Show With Jay Leno) plus three stateside tours have seen their album sales soar and Rod & Gab confirmed as the cool rock / alternative guitar heroes on the block.
A temporary glitch occurred when US homeland security mistook Rodrigo Sanchez for a barred foreigner and refused to renew his Entertainment Working Visa forcing the duo to cancel appearances at SXSW (with Bloc Party) and Langeradoo and to postpone several dates on their US tour. However common sense prevailed, a visa was issued, and the duo return to America throughout April where their tour will include a performance on The Jimmy Kimmel Show and at the prestigious Coachella festival.
Back in Britain Jools Holland, Jonathan Ross and Johnny Walker have all discovered and shared the Mexican duos musical wizardry with live performances on BBC2s Later With Jools Holland and on Jonathans and Johnnys Radio 2 shows. Rodrigo y Gabriela have reinvented the rules for acoustic guitar reshaping its landscape using lightning speed, dynamic range and irresistible rhythmic invention. Constantly refining and redefining their craft, their third and eponymous album has taken their metier to a wider audience and greater artistic acclaim.
The highlight of the festival season Rodrigo y Gabriela stage a thrilling live spectacle whether playing in a small acoustic venue or on a main stage to 50,000 people. That two people with two nylon stringed acoustic guitars can create such exhilarating, emotional, heart-pounding music with such raw energy, suspense and passion is nothing short of astonishing. On groove-shifting originals like “Diablo Rojo” and “Satori,” Rodrigo Sanchez shows off maniacal scale runs while Gabriela Quintero adds thunderous percussion by drumming on the guitar’s body. Stairway To Heaven is given a whole new life and their version of Metallicas Orion is brain-melting.
