Radiohead’s Thom Yorke is shortly to release a solo album. ‘The Eraser’, set for a July release via XL, is being produced by the band’s longtime producer, Nigel Godrich, and according to a statement, Yorke wrote all of the tracks and played all the instruments.
Yorke says: “I have been itching to do something like this for ages. It was fun and quick to do. Inevitably it is more beats and electronics. But it’s songs. Stanley [Donwood – Radiohead’s cover artist] did the cover. Yes it’s a record! No it’s not a Radiohead record. As you know the band are now touring and writing new stuff and getting to a good space.”
He added that the long player’s release did not indicate that Radiohead are in any danger of splitting, saying: “I want no crap about me being a traitor or whatever splitting up blah blah… this was all done with their blessing. And I don’t wanna hear that word ‘solo’. Doesn’t sound right. OK then that’s that.”
Doesn’t want to hear the word solo, eh? Oops.
