As previously reported, rumours that Dire Straits might appear at the 2007 festival followed remarks made by Glasto man Michael Eavis on Xfm. When presenter Shaun Keavney joked about Dire Straits playing, Eavis said: “Funnily enough, I’m talking to them at the moment you know. Yeah, not for the Main Stage but for something else”.
However, a statement on the Glastonbury website has subsequently clarified matters: “To set the record straight, Dire Straits will not be playing next year’s Glastonbury. We apologise to anyone who had their hopes up, and of course, to the band and their management for the misunderstanding.”
