‘In a Way We’re All Winners’ is the name of Speedreader’s new EP, launched in January 2006, and it couldn’t be more apt to describe the pairing between the group and Aimhigher West Midlands.
Part of a national, government-funded initiative to promote widening participation in higher education, Aimhigher West Midlands’ goal is to see 50% of the region’s 18-30 year olds undertaking a degree or level 4/5 NVQ by 2010.
Speedreader are a Midlands’ band, who have used their Music Technology degrees, from two different local universities, to good effect in mixing their songs and ‘also when out gigging when something goes wrong’. They send out an important message to prospective students, which is right up Aimhigher’s street.
In an interview with Aimhigher, bandmembers Mike Beardsworth and Adam Byrne discuss their music, their EP, gigging and education, while offering three copies of ‘In a Way We’re All Winners’ in a competition.
