Radio 1 have denied those reports last week that they have shunned the new version of The Buzzcocks ‘Ever Fallen in Love (With Someone You Shouldn’t’ve)’, which was released as a tribute to the late great John Peel. The Sun reported last week that the nation’s favourite wasn’t playing the charity record, which features contributions from the likes of Elton John, Roger Daltrey, Robert Plant, David Gilmour and Pete Shelley, because it didn’t fit in with “music policy”. However, a spokesman for the Radio 1 says that, while the track hasn’t been playlisted, it has been championed by the station.
Said spokesman told CMU: “The cover of the Buzzcocks ‘Ever Fallen In Love’ received its first play anywhere in the world on Radio 1 on the Jo Whiley show on the 10 Oct. Whilst it was not added to the playlist, it was subsequently played on a variety of other shows in the weeks surrounding John Peel Day on the 14 Oct. Playing this track was just one of several ways in which Radio 1 continued to honour John’s memory. Championing new music was at the heart of what John believed in and is exactly what the station continues to do day in day out.”
