Paul Weller – As Is Now (CD Review)

Paul Weller’s latest album contains a couple of great little tunes but nothing hugely substantive. His familiar vocal style and familiar chords are played out through this collection with gusto but no real passion comes through. After the first single from ‘As Is Now’ I had thought the album may have taken on a move raucous edge. Where ‘Come on/Lets go’ had some verve about it, like the Jam in fact, the rest of the album has a same-y feel about it.

If sixties style bluesy delivery, winsome folk and Paul’s weary rasping are not your thing then there will be nothing much for you to take from this.
