Bristling with energy and bright with defiance, The Rakes launch their debut album with the punchy stomper ‘Strasbourg’ and maintain the energy for the duration if the eleven tracks on ‘Capture/Release’. The sound of The Rakes is like an amalgam of Sham 69, The Only Ones and Jilted John; commercial punk that has not divorced itself completely from the disaffected anger the drives many songs while still hanging onto the need for songs to sound good. That isn’t to say there is no originality here, there is plenty, but it is hard to ignore the similarities.

‘Capture/Release’ is a fantastic album for its verve and style, its vibrancy and brashness, and most of all for its great tunes.
