The Alps – World At War (CD Review)

The Alps, a four-piece from Greenwich, have a good line in feisty, three minute, jangly rock that has beat that propels the listener and an undeniable catchiness that cannot be ignored. Having justifiably won the XFM’s unsigned Exposure Competition they are now signed (to Tough Cookie) and are reaping their just rewards. ‘World At War’ starts with a drum beat like a cavalry charge before exploding in a blast of cries from Daniel and melodically jarring guitars; I can’t fault it.

The b-side, ‘Eleventh Hour’, is another pacey number that adds more squealing guitars and a sing-a-long chorus to the recipe; all to great effect. If The Alps maintain this standard then there should be no stopping them.

The Alps have a couple of dates lined up in August at Carling Academy Birmingham on 15th August and Carling Academy London on 18th August.
