The Cribs – The New Fellas (CD Review)

As difficult second albums go it is hard to believe that ‘The New Fellas’ is not a debut. The fire is there, the mix of rock pop power, scene setting lyrics and a jaunty lean towards perverted TV theme happiness in their choppy guitars. These guys even descend into hellish feedback in a nice way. Wakefield must be a great place*.

From the opening licks of their Top 30 single ‘Hey Scenesters!” to the happy-sad mix that is ‘Haunted’ these boys have a style that is like The Libertines covered by a supergroup made of Squeeze, The Rapture and Ronnie Hazlehurst. This album is full of great tunes, perfect hooks and endearing off-kilter moments that make for a listen that is pure fun.
