PlayLouder is chuffed as a fox in a chicken coop to announce that we have joined forces with Camden’s newly launched KOKO (formerly the Camden Palace) venue to hold a monthly series of live events; PlayLouder at KOKO. The Camden Palace had become a sticky floored hovel, like a booze-soused old aunt who’d left her glory years well behind (accommodating the likes of Charlie Chaplin, the Goons and Madonna), and become rather decrepit. But over the past six months, the Camden Palace has been lovingly restored, painted a delightful shade of deep red and given a state of the art sound system. PlayLouder, espying all this from our East London slaughterhouse HQ, decided the time was right to team up with the reinvigorated KOKO to begin a regular night showcasing the best new and established artists of this land, and beyond.

Thusly the launch of PlayLouder at KOKO shall come to pass on the night of Tuesday, November 30th, 2004… and what a line-up we have for you…
First up shall be Cass McCombs. In a time where it seems as if earnest American singer-songwriters are appearing all over the shop like pop-up air rifle targets at the fairground, McCombs is a welcome break from the moribund; lifted by his cracked-porcelain voice, detached lyrics and rich accompaniment of hazy organ and gentle guitar. Combs will be playing material from his much-lauded album ‘A’, and premiering new stuff from forthcoming record ‘PREfection’.
After the quiet, cometh the storm. Six By Seven have released four great albums since the early 1990s. Most recently teaming up with Death In Vegas, Six By Seven hunkered down in the studio and came up with the ink-sparingly titled ‘4’, a startling solidification of their sound that puts them right back in the frame.

Headlining the inaugural PlayLouder at KOKO will be swooning Scotch heroes The Delgados, just months off the tenth anniversary of their first release. Earlier this year, The Delgados released their self-described “pop” album ‘Universal Audio’, a significant departure from the boozy gloom of ‘The Great Eastern’ or the haughty crossness of ‘Hate’. Recently returned from an epic tour of the USA and Canada, tonight’s gig will see The Delgados bringing their epic, melancholic pop to this most fitting venue.
