The Libertines – What Became Of The Likely Lads (CD Review)

With their second album (‘The Libertines’) getting to number one and the first single from it (‘Can’t Stand Me Now’) having reached number two, it is safe to say there are high hopes for ‘What Became Of The Likely Lads’. The song itself is jaunty jangle of a song with a damn catchy chorus. It is a ‘grower’ of a song that will creep into your unconscious and will buzz about your brain for a while to come.

As with much of ‘The Libertines’, the subject matter of the bands troubled black sheep has proved to be far richer that would have been expected and not an exercise in wallowing introspection that may have been feared.

The b-sides of the singles are all new and unique to this release; they include some live tracks from their spectacular Brixton gig in March.
