Opening the show that night will be very special guests MORCHEEBA, who will be making their worldwide debut with their new singer following the departure of Skye Edwards.
LEE HAZLEWOOD is arguably most widely known for his work with Nancy Sinatra (who coincidentally performs at the Royal Festival Hall in June as part of Morrissey’s Meltdown). He penned the legendary These Boots Were Made For Walking for her, and was also responsible for Some Velvet Morning, recently voted Greatest Duet Of All Time by the Daily Telegraph. His work as a producer, record company mogul, and writer with the likes of Duane Eddy, Frank Sinatra, The International Submarine Band (featuring Gram Parsons) and many, many more has led to his work being championed by a diverse range of artists, from Sonic Youth to Beck, from Jarvis Cocker to Primal Scream, from Polly Harvey to Bono. Over the course of a uniquely uncompromising career he has released a large number of solo albums, most recently For Every Problem There Is A Solution, a collection of previously unreleased recordings on City Slang Records. At the same time, a tribute album – featuring the likes of St Etienne, Evan Dando, Jarvis Cocker & Richard Hawley, Tindersticks and Kathryn Williams – was released, entitled Total Lee. EMI also recently released Poet Fool Or Bum and Back on The Street Again on CD for the first time.
Currently residing in the US, after spells in Sweden, Spain and Ireland, LEE HAZLEWOOD rarely steps into the spotlight, and this show is a one off before he continues work on what he promises will be his final album. A number of collaborations are currently planned but we won’t tempt fate by announcing them at this stage…
