The A.M. pitch themselves as taking the essence of experimental rock and funk from the history of pop and rock. Their likeness to Roxy Music, David Bowie and Prince is sketchy at best. What they have in ‘Utopia’ is a very early eighties pop-rock sound, the jangly guitars and swooping vocals are pleasant enough; the single lacks the punch of great pop and the depth of great rock. They are occupying a middle ground that it is hard to get excited about.
‘Utopia’ is taken from the bands eponymous debut of last year. The A.M. are on tour,
- June 18 Barfly – London
- June 19 King Tuts Wah Wah Hut – Glasgow
- June 20 Roadhouse – Manchester
- June 21 Whelans – Dublin
- June 22 Barfly – Cardiff
- June 23 APU S.U. Bar (Anglia Polytechnic) – Cambridge
- June 25 La Boule Noir – Paris
