Fountains of Wayne to release ‘Mexican Wine’

New single released 31st May 2004

The Fountains Of Wayne are back with another jaunty off kilter pop song, ‘Mexican Wine’. They are still elated from the success of ‘Stacey’s Mum’. The single stayed in the top 20 for 3 weeks, peaking just outside the top 10.

The Fountains Of Wayne are the masters of the three-and-a-half minute pop song. Led by songwriters Adam Schlesinger and Chris Collingwood, the New York-based quartet is known for crafting witty, wistful, and instantly memorable character portraits, often using the Northeastern U.S. as a backdrop.

The single is taken from the Fountains Of Wayne album, ‘Welcome Interstate Managers’.

FoW – Mexican Wine – “Boasting the sort of chord Cheap Trick’s Rick Nielsen has spent a whole career searching his fretboard for, this highlight from FoW’s Welcome Interstate Managers’ also contained the year’s most exciting example of a miked -up musician unable to contain himself as the drums crash in – echoing the primal incoherent grunt of fans since rock n roll began. In a word (or as near as dammit): Yeah” The Sunday Times
