The Album Leaf news

New album features collaborations with Sigur Ros, Mum and The Black Heart Procession

CITY SLANG RECORDS are stoked (at the very least) to announce the signing of THE ALBUM LEAF, whose new album IN A SAFE PLACE is scheduled for a July 26th release. THE ALBUM LEAF is Jimmy LaValle, described in the US press as a “sound scientist” on more than one occasion, and whose CV includes the acclaimed American instrumental act Tristeza, noise punks The Locust, and recent bass playing duties for cult act The Black Heart Procession.

Taking the name from a Chopin piece, THE ALBUM LEAF’s first album for City Slang is actually Lavalle’s third under the name. IN A SAFE PLACE is remarkable not only for its songs of frail beauty and glacial textures, but also for the cast list LaValle gathered together for the recordings. Members of Sigur Rós, Amina (Sigur Rós’ string section) and The Black Heart Procession all joined the multi-instrumentalist for the three months of recording which took place last year at Sundlaugin Studio, Sigur Rós’ famous studio just outside Rekyjavik in Iceland. Maria Sigfusdottir, formerly of Mum, also guests on the record. LaValle had previously toured with Sigur Rós during their first US tours, and eventually ended up joining them on stage during later tours. Later this year he will support Mum on their forthcoming US tour.

The album sees vocal duties undertaken by LaValle for the first time, while The Black Heart Procession’s Pall Jenkins and Sigur Rós’ Jon Thor Birgisson also take lead vocals for a number of songs.

The full tracklisting is as follows:

Window / On Your Way / Twentytwofourteen / The Outer Banks / Over The Pond / Another Day (Revised) / Streamside / Eastern Glow / Moss Mountain Town

A highly collectable limited edition 12″ sampler will be released in advance of the album containing On Your Way / Over The Pond / Moss Mountain Town. The release date will be announced shortly.

Keep an eye on for news, streams, exclusive downloads etc over the coming weeks.
