Jack White produces Loretta Lynn album

Interscope records is pleased to announce the release of ‘Van Lear Rose’ from the Grammy award-winning music icon Loretta Lynn on April 26th.

With 70 albums, 55 top 10 singles and 27 number one singles to her credit, Loretta Lynn is arguably the most iconic and inspirational women to come out of the country music scene. She has influenced modern artists of all genres. Most recently, Jack White of The White Stripes, who has produced the 13 track album, describing his idol as the “greatest female singer/songwriter of the 20th century”. ‘Van Lear Rose’, with its moody arrangements, loud and rocking guitars and intimate songwriting also features the stunning Lynn-White duet ‘Portland, Oregon’. Loretta says: “The songs are country but a little bit different.”

Born in Kentucky and raised in a small shack during the Depression, Loretta was married at the age of 13, had four children by the age of 18 and became a grandmother at the age of 29. Instead of singing about how much she loved her man Loretta sang about being a ‘Coal Miner’s Daughter’ and when Tammy Wynette hit the top with ‘Stand By Your Man’ Loretta responded with ‘The Pill’ which was banned by US radio. She soon became the first woman in country music to become a millionaire and in 1973, she made the cover of Newsweek.

Loretta has never been confined simply to country music. Her autobiography, ‘Coal Miner’s Daughter’ became a number one best seller. In 1980, Universal Pictures released the screen adaptation and the film was nominated for seven Academy Awards. Actress Sissy Spacek won an Oscar for her portrayal of Loretta and it is considered to be one of the best music biopics ever made.

‘Van Lear Rose’ looks set to be Loretta’s breakthrough record in the UK and is certain to propel her music and her rags-to-riches story to a whole new audience.
