Surferosa – Shanghai My Heart

Norwegian synth-punk band Surferosa are an explosive mixture. They have taken the furious energy of punk, some perfect pop synth, added chugging guitars and topped it off with vocals that snarl, croon and soar. Those vocals, provided by Mariann, add an extra dimension to the whole album. Mariann has a voice that can evoke the sound of Kim Wilde, Hazel O’Connor, Debbie Harry or Siouxsie Sioux.

The single ‘Lucky Lipstick’ kicks off the album, and sets a high pace for the rest of the songs. It is this pace that results in ‘Shanghai My Heart’ being a blisteringly good listen from start to finish; there are no duff tracks, fillers or token ballads to pad things out. Energy and fun clearly rule the roost for Surferosa.

For those that missed it, the title track from their very limited ‘Neon Commando’ EP is also included as well.
