Space – Suburban Rock ‘N’ Roll

You get the feeling that Tommy from Space wants to be Frank Sinatra, while other members of the band want to be Quincy Jones, Yazoo and John Williams. The result, as with previous Space releases, is a curious experience. The gloss of fluffy sixties happy vibes can suddenly slip and reveal a menacing meander of Bond theme-esque grandeur. This is when there isn’t a mysterious inclusion of electronic blips or old school scratching. None of this should work, not even a little bit. Nevertheless, as you listen, it is easy to find yourself drawn into their world. Suddenly you accept the oddities and smile.

Space are their first gigs in six years towards the end of March. You can catch them at the following venues.

  • 23 March – Liverpool Academy
  • 24 March – Manchester Hop & Grape
  • 25 March – London Academy
